Background

DiscoverBrands 3D Printing aims to reduce plastic waste by locally producing affordable 3D printing filament, 3D printed merchandise and E waste 3D printers hence promoting a plastics and E-waste circular economy. A circular economy is a regenerative system in which resource input and waste, emission and energy leakage are minimized by slowing, closing and narrowing energy and material loops. The implementation is made possible by DB3D partnering with Qtron Industries and TechForTrade who are our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) for our DB3D 3D Printers and 3D Printing filament respectively.

DB3D is a national and global circular economy ambassador through the P4G 2030 hub (Public Private Partnership) with a project dubbed ‘The New Plastics Economy Kenya’. The partners are WRI/CCAP (Center For Clean air policy) and KEPSA (Kenya Private Sector Alliance) as the global and national admin respectively, Coca-Cola beverages Africa, Kenya Climate Innovation Center, Ministry of Environment and Treasury, County governments of Nairobi and Kiambu among others with DiscoverBrands as the PET and E-waste recycler. The pilot project entails recycling PET waste collected under the new EPR(Extended producer Responsibility) strategy developed under the new Kenya Plastic Action Plan recently launched and convert it into affordable 3D printing filament, curriculum based learning STEM kits and E-waste 3D printers. All partners take different roles in this project according to their capacities/deliverables.
